RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-1016
A resolution recognizing Mr. Joe Goldthreate, Executive Director of the Hadley Park Junior Tennis Development Program, on the occasion of his retirement.
WHEREAS, Mr. Joe Goldthreate, retired as Executive Director of the Hadley Park Junior Tennis Development Program effective June 30, 2009, after serving faithfully for 40 years and is to be commended for his professionalism, experience and knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Joe started working with youth at Hadley Park in 1970 and is instrumental in starting the Hadley Park Junior Tennis Development Program in 1984 with three students two days a week, two hours a day. The program subsequently grew to serve over four hundred children a day, five days a week for eight hours daily; and where over the years many of his students received tennis scholarships, and
WHEREAS, while the program’s main focus is to help mostly intercity children learn the fundamentals and techniques of the game, it also stresses the importance of education, discipline, character building and social skills to make it in society; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Goldthreate has received numerous awards including the Professional Tennis Registry’s Tennis Pro of the year awarded by the founder, Dennis Van de meer at the US Open Tennis Championship in New York City; his program was named the Southern Tennis Association NJTL Chapter of the year in 1995, and in 1999 his program was the recipient of several other awards. Joe is the first African American to serve on both the Tennessee and Southern Section Executive Boards; and for his outstanding work with the inner-city youth he received the “Time is Now” Award, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Goldthreate is to be commended for his timeless efforts for the improvement of recreational opportunities and will sorely be missed as the Executive Director of the Hadley Park Junior Tennis Development Program, and will long be remembered for his commitment to opening the doors to tennis to the city’s youth; and
WHEREAS, his is married to his wife Patricia for thirty-two years and from this blessed union were born four children Stephanie Smith, Poitia, Rochelle, and Martina; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Joe Goldthreate for the service he has given to the Hadley Park Junior Tennis Development Program and wish him a happy and gratifying retirement.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Joe Goldthreate, Executive Director of the Hadley Park Junior Tennis Development Program, on the occasion of his retirement.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. Joe Goldthreate.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
