RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-593

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Grand Prize Winner Karen Sosa on her winning entry in the “Put Waste in its Place: Keep Nashville Beautiful” art contest.

WHEREAS, Una Elementary School 4th grader Karen Sosa, is a highly motivated and talented young lady whose creative abilities, under the direction of Art teacher Caroline Bartlett, allowed her to submit the winning artwork in the “Put Waste in its Place: Keep Nashville Beautiful” contest; and

WHEREAS, the “Put Waste in its Place: Keep Nashville Beautiful” art contest was opened to all Metro public elementary third and fourth graders, with the top 70 entries being displayed on the sides of city waste trucks; and

WHEREAS, the competition was sponsored by the Metro Nashville Public Schools, Metro Nashville Public Works and Red River Service Corporation, Nashville’s largest waste collection service provider; and

WHEREAS, Karen Sosa’s, art work was featured during the Nashville Gas Christmas Parade on Friday, December 5, 2008, downtown, during a public viewing on Saturday, December 6, 2008, on Titans Way, and will be displayed on household waste collection trucks during the next six months as part of a citywide campaign to promote recycling and city beautification, she also received prize money for her school’s art department; and

WHEREAS, her achievements are a tremendous source of pride for her family, friends, and her school; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Karen Sosa and extends their congratulations to her on her accomplishment and encourage her to seek opportunities to expand her horizons and capabilities.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Grand Prize Winner Karen Sosa on her winning entry in the “Put Waste in its Place: Keep Nashville Beautiful” art contest.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Karen Sosa of Una Elementary School.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
