RESOLUTION NO. RS2009-592

A resolution recognizing C. William (Bill) McKee.

WHEREAS, C. William (Bill) McKee is Professor of Education and Public Service Management at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee, where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes and directs the Master of Science degree program in Public Service Management; and

WHEREAS, a Nashville native and resident, Bill is the son of the late Lonnie C. and Mary Argo McKee. He grew-up in North Edgefield. Both his Argo and McKee grandparents lived in this area of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, his father was associated with Crook Brothers Grocery for over fifty years, and his mother was a long-time teacher and artist. His older brother, Clifford is a Nashville physician and was a faculty member at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. His sister-in-law, Siew, is also a Nashville physician; and

WHEREAS, Bill attended both Glenn and Highland Heights Schools, and received his high school diploma from the University School of Nashville. He earned both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a master's degree from Auburn University; and

WHEREAS, active as a community volunteer, Dr. McKee currently is a Commissioner of the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Historical Commission, Board Member of the Historic Nashville City Cemetery Association, active participant in the First Baptist Church of Nashville, and Chairperson of the Child Advocacy Center Board of the 15th Judicial District of the State of Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, the book, "North Edgefield Remembered, A Story of a Nashville Neighborhood" was made possible by the efforts of District 5 Council Lady Pam Murray and the North Edgefield Organized Neighbors (NEON), who helped provide monies for its printing and design. Dr. McKee wrote the book with assistance from the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Archives, the Metro Historical Commission, and the Tennessee State Library and Archives; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes C. William (Bill) McKee on his accomplishments and wish him every continued success in his future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing C. William (Bill) McKee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to C. William (Bill) McKee.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
