RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-588
A resolution requesting the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to openly endorse certain highway infrastructure projects and to commit to these projects to achieve their completion in the immediate future.
WHEREAS, the goal of the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is to provide leadership in planning a comprehensive, multi-modal regional transportation system that promotes economic vitality and encourages sustainable land development to protect community and natural resources; and
WHEREAS, the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization has created a Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan Update; and
WHEREAS, there are three (3) projects on this plan that represent a regional transportation upgrade that would, upon completion, serve a number of council districts (11, 12, 13, 14, 28, 29) in addition to communities in Wilson County; and
WHEREAS, these projects would assist in relieving the traffic over-congestion that has burdened this area in excess of twenty years, and accommodating the ever-increasing number of vehicles associated with increased development in Davidson and Wilson Counties; and
WHEREAS, these projects would alleviate the dangers associated with driving in this area; and
WHEREAS, the first of these, Project #1085 (Harding Place Extension), would construct a new roadway of 4-6 lanes and a new interchange with Interstate 40; and
WHEREAS, the second of these, Project #1113 (Stewart’s Ferry Pike), would widen Stewart’s Ferry Pike from Lebanon Pike to Lauer Drive from 2 to 5 lanes; and
WHEREAS, the third of these, Project #1121 (Lebanon Pike), would widen Lebanon Pike from Stewart’s Ferry Pike to the YMCA from 4 to 5 lanes by adding a center turn lane and including the installation of bike lanes; and
WHEREAS, the Harding Place Extension and the Lebanon Pike projects are to be completed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, the Stewart’s Ferry Pike project is to be completed by the Metropolitan Department of Public Works; and
WHEREAS, the commitment by the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to these projects will promote their completion in the immediate future for the general welfare of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to openly endorse projects 1085, 1113, and 1121 that are found on their 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan Update.
Section 2. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to commit to these projects as high priorities and promote their completion in conjunction with one another in the immediate future.
Section 3. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Executive Board, the Technical Coordinating Committee, and the Staff of the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
