RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-554

A resolution requesting the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County to sign the T. Boone Pickens’ Energy Independence Plan pledge and encouraging everyone to support this plan.

WHEREAS, a pledge drive is currently underway to endorse an Energy Independence Plan and to require that this be enacted within the first 100 days of the new administration; and

WHEREAS, the new President Barack Obama and the 111th Congress need to enact an energy plan that reduces our foreign oil dependence by at least 30% within ten years, and to make major changes toward cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources; and

WHEREAS, this plan must include proven American technology and resources, the development of new energy sources, and the expansion and modernization of the national electrical grid to transport renewable energy to homes and businesses; and

WHEREAS, reliable, ample and affordable energy is critical for the production and consumption of energy use necessary for our country’s everyday activities; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County to support the T. Boone Pickens’ Energy Independence Plan and to take steps to conserve energy and develop responsible habits that will reduce energy consumption in their everyday lives.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record in support of the T. Boone Pickens’ Energy Independence Plan pledge and encourages citizens to support this plan.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
