RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-529

A resolution recognizing and acknowledging Metropolitan Social Services on the first anniversary of becoming accredited as meeting best practice standards.

WHEREAS, acknowledging the efforts of Metropolitan Social Services (MSS), for becoming the first public social service agency in the state of Tennessee to be accredited by the Council of Accreditation (COA) as meeting best practice standards in the delivery of social services; and

WHEREAS, the men and women who comprise the Metropolitan Social Services, under the tutelage of Director Gerri Robinson, represent an exemplary group of public servants who train and work tirelessly because of their overwhelming desire to serve others, with no expectation of gratitude or reward; and

WHEREAS, the COA is an international, independent, not-for-profit, child- and family-service and behavioral healthcare accrediting organization that currently accredits 38 different service areas and over 60 types of programs and among the service areas are substance abuse treatment, adult day care, services for the homeless, foster care, and inter-country adoption; and

WHEREAS, COA accreditation is a catalyst for change that builds on an organization’s strengths and helps it achieve better results in all areas and an organization is evaluated against best-practice standards with input from a wide range of service providers, funders, experts, policymakers and consumers. Accreditation is designed to be a framework within which an organization can measure its performance; and

WHEREAS, Metro Social Services is one of four agencies accredited by COA in Middle Tennessee and is the only public agency within the state of Tennessee to achieve this goal. Additionally, Metro Social Services

• Affords every Davidson County resident who requests an opportunity to evaluate services received.
• Has a consistent 90% satisfaction rate from customers requesting services completing the survey; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the exceptional effort and dedication shown by Gerri Robinson and the staff of Metro Social Services on the first anniversary of their accreditation.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and acknowledging Metropolitan Social Services on the first anniversary of becoming accredited as meeting best practice standards.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Gerri Robinson, Director of Metro Social Services.


Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
