RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-527

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Dr. Barbara Corso Ide of Thurgood Marshall Middle School on being named the 2008 National Distinguished Principal for the State of Tennessee.

WHEREAS, Dr. Barbara Corso Ide, principal of Thurgood Marshall Middle School will represent the State of Tennessee this fall in Washington D.C. to accept the National Distinguished Principal award; and

WHEREAS, the National Distinguished Principal award was conceived as a way to recognize excellence among elementary and middle school principals in the nation; and

WHEREAS, the principal of Thurgood Marshall Middle School, Dr. Barbara Corso Ide was recently selected as the 2008 National Distinguished Principal for the State of Tennessee by the Tennessee Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals Organization, an honor befitting her outstanding tenure as a principal as it recognizes her outstanding leadership skills, her ability to meet the academic needs of all students, and have established strong relationships with parents, the community and local businesses; and

WHEREAS, she is a graduate of Ball State University and Trevecca Nazarene University, previously worked as a teacher and the gifted/talented coordinator for Delaware Community Schools in Indiana along with principal of Blue River Valley Elementary in Indiana before moving to Nashville where she served as principal of Percy Priest Elementary, Lakeview Elementary Design and Kennedy Middle School and during the 2008-2009 school year, she will be principal of the new Thurgood Marshall Middle School; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ide is an extremely talented and compassionate administrator who works assiduously to motivate her students, teachers, and staff to reach their full potential, both as scholars and as citizens; and

WHEREAS, she truly serves as an inspiration to her colleagues, faculty, staff and students alike, and her friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate to know her; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ide truly epitomizes the ideal of the dedicated principal who is committed to the highest ideals of public service and quality education for all; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Dr. Barbara Corso Ide of Thurgood Marshall Middle School upon being chosen as the 2008 National Distinguished Principal in the State of Tennessee and commend her exceptional service, salute her professional expertise and her accomplishments and wish her all the best as she moves forward.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Dr. Barbara Corso Ide of Thurgood Marshall Middle School on being named the 2008 National Distinguished Principal for the State of Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Barbara Corso Ide.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
