RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-355

A resolution recognizing Mr. Donald Reid for his outstanding professional contributions to the Metropolitan Government through the implementation of Metro’s Pavement Preservation Program.

WHEREAS, Mr. Donald Reid was hired as the Pavement Manager for the Metropolitan Department of Public Works in 2002; and

WHEREAS, upon being hired, Mr. Reid was charged with implementing a pavement preservation system to extend the life of existing roadway surfaces, thus saving the Metropolitan Government a considerable amount of money; and

WHEREAS, using the professional expertise of Don Reid, the Metropolitan implemented a pavement preservation system that consists of surface treatments used to replenish lighter oils and rejuvenate the roadway, as well as the sealing of cracks in the pavement to prolong its service life; and

WHEREAS, in order to make the pavement preservation system a success, Mr. Reid worked tirelessly to educate the public about the benefits of pavement preservation as opposed to more frequent repaving, and conducted workshops for contractors allowing them to familiarize themselves with the equipment and materials used in pavement preservation; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of Mr. Donald Reid’s exemplary efforts, the Metropolitan Department of Public Works was honored by the Foun¬dation for Pavement Preservation with its 2007 Pavement Pres¬ervation Excellence Award for pub¬lic agencies; and

WHEREAS, Metro’s pavement preservation program has increased the government’s overall pavement life cycle from 12 years to 15 years, and has already saved the taxpayers of this city over $1 million through the use of one particular treatment alone; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Donald Reid for his exceptional service to the Metropolitan Government.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Mr. Donald Reid for his outstanding professional contributions to the Metropolitan Government through the implementation of Metro’s Pavement Preservation Program.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Donald Reid.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
