RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-254
A resolution recognizing the passing of Antioch High School Baseball Coach Ronnie Wilson.
WHEREAS, the untimely passing of Antioch High School Baseball Coach Ronnie Wilson has brought a great loss to his family, friends and extended family who will forever be grateful for his guidance, leadership and insight; and
WHEREAS, for over twenty years Coach Wilson accumulated an astounding baseball record of 469 wins and 357 losses, while serving with diligence and dexterity as a coach, in which he earned the respect of his players and peers alike for his exemplary knowledge and coaching skills of the game of baseball; and
WHEREAS, the 1978-79 season was an eventful one for Coach Wilson and the Antioch Bears, as they won their only state title after defeating Knox-South Young 5-2 in the 3rd game of a three game championship series; and
WHEREAS, other highlights of his remarkable career include 9 times district champ and 2 times regional champ with 1 State runner-up title, being named District Coach of the Year 7 times, and having a five-foot granite piece bearing Wilson’s image and achievements placed by the school baseball field that was unveiled in March; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wilson’s determination, work ethic, and talent have not only made possible a memorable and successful baseball career, but also ensures a lasting legacy with the sport of baseball at Antioch High School; and
WHEREAS, Coach Wilson who was deeply devoted to his family is survived by his wife Cheryl, his sons Ronnie Jr., and Scott and his daughter Christie; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Coach Ronnie Wilson as we express and extend our sincere sympathy to the members of his family.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the passing of Antioch High School Baseball Coach Ronnie Wilson
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of former Antioch Coach Ronnie Wilson.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
