RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-253

A resolution recognizing Coach Charles M. Anderson on achieving his 1,000th coaching victory.

WHEREAS, Coach Charles M. Anderson began his coaching career at old Central High School in Nashville in 1959 and was a high school coach at Stratford, Bellevue, and Hillsboro before becoming the head basketball coach at Aquinas College, then taking the head basketball coaching job at Nashville Christian; and

WHEREAS, in 2002 Coach Anderson brought his leadership, skills and energy to become Nashville Christian’s basketball head coach where he just led the 2008 team to sub-state while gaining his 1,000th victory against Van Buren County; and

WHEREAS, Coach Anderson’s many accolades include being inducted into the Region 5 Hall of Fame, the Tennessee Junior College Hall of Fame and National Junior College Hall of Fame in 1992, the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2003; and

WHEREAS, other highlights of his remarkable career include being named Coach of the Year at every level he has coached, including National Coach of the Year in 1991; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure in coaching, Coach Anderson has accumulated an astounding 1,000 wins and 395 losses, both at the High School and Junior College level, including winning the 1991 Junior College Athletic Association National Championship (NJCAA) and being named the nation’s Junior College Coach of the Year for 1990-91 while coaching at Aquinas Junior College; and

WHEREAS, Coach Anderson has impacted countless lives having approximately 80 of his former players to have signed Division 1 scholarships; and

WHEREAS, Coach Anderson’s determination, work ethic, and talent have not only made possible a memorable and successful basketball career, but also ensures a lasting legacy with the sport of basketball as a whole; and

WHEREAS, Coach Anderson has not only devoted his time coaching all these years, he also enjoys spending time with his family, soul mate Beverly for over 51 years, son Chuck, always coaching at his side since graduating from college, grandsons Jarrett and Caden, and great granddaughter Aubrey; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Coach Charles M. Anderson of Nashville Christian on his 1,000th career win, for his hard work in obtaining this milestone and wish him success in all future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Coach Charles M. Anderson of Nashville Christian on achieving his 1,000th coaching victory.


Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Coach Charles M. Anderson.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
