RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-185
A resolution recognizing Cathy Rader upon her retirement from the position as Volunteer Director of Special Olympics Nashville.
WHEREAS, on December 21, 2007, Cathy Rader, Volunteer Director of Special Olympics Nashville stepped down after 34 years of excellent leadership, dedication, and professionalism and is well deserving of this recognition; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics is an international organization created to help people with intellectual disabilities develop self-confidence, social skills and a sense of personal accomplishment through sports training and competition; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics would not exist today, and could not have been created, without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of its volunteers; and
WHEREAS, the patience, wisdom and understanding that Cathy Rader demonstrates on a daily basis shows that she is a true volunteer. She began her volunteer work with the incorporation of Special Olympics Tennessee in 1974; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure as volunteer director of Special Olympics Nashville some of her major accomplishments included being a respected friend to many families and Special Athletes in the Nashville community and in Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rader was instrumental in educating the Nashville community about persons with intellectual disabilities and providing a venue to showcase their skills; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rader has established herself as the primary advocate for many of our persons with special needs and has been a tireless advocate for the civil rights of persons with intellectual disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Rader is to be commended for her timeless efforts for the improvement of recreational opportunities for our children, young adults, and adults with intellectual disabilities and will sorely be missed as the volunteer director of Special Olympics Nashville; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Cathy Rader for her work and accomplishments with the Special Olympics and wish her much success as she moves forward and becomes a volunteer and coach for Special Olympics Nashville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Cathy Rader upon her retirement from the position as Volunteer Director of Special Olympics Nashville.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mrs. Cathy Rader.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
