RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-180

A resolution recognizing Central Precinct Detectives Rick Mavity, Ricky Winfrey, former Officer Billy Merryman, along with Detectives Chad Gish, Tracy Gatwood and Joe Williams of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

WHEREAS, Central Precinct Detectives Rick Mavity, Ricky Winfrey, former Officer Billy Merryman, along with Detectives Chad Gish, Tracy Gatwood and Joe Williams, who through their perseverance, tenacity and commitment have worked tirelessly to solve the case of the stolen laptop computers from the Election Commission over the holidays; and

WHEREAS, the extraordinary diligence, commitment and achievements demonstrated by these law enforcement officers deserve recognition; and

WHEREAS, on the evening of January 16, 2008, Central Precinct Detectives Mavity and Winfrey recovered both laptop computers stolen from the Davidson County Election Commission, Officer Merryman (now retired) collected the blood evidence, and Detectives Gish and Gatwood were the computer forensic experts, along with Detective Williams who worked on the case; and

WHEREAS, the countless hours in keeping this investigation on-going, since the Christmas Eve burglary at the Election Commission, has brought justice to this chapter in Nashville crime; and

WHEREAS, this recognition has been bestowed upon them for their outstanding and praise-worthy service and work which has benefited 335,000 Davidson County voters; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Detectives Rick Mavity and Ricky Winfrey, former Officer Billy Merryman, along with Detectives Chad Gish, Tracy Gatwood and Joe Williams for their day to day duties in protecting the citizens of Davidson County and in keeping the streets and communities of Nashville a safe place to live and work.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Central Precinct Detectives Rick Mavity, Ricky Winfrey, former Officer Billy Merryman, along with Detectives Chad Gish, Tracy Gatwood and Joe Williams of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Detectives Ricky Mavity and Ricky Winfrey, former Officer Billy Merryman, Detectives Chad Gish, Tracy Gatwood and Joe Williams.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
