RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-179

A resolution recognizing Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Police Department South Precinct Commander Rick Lankford on the occasion of his retirement.

WHEREAS, Rick Lankford, Precinct Commander of the South Precinct, recently completed his remarkable and distinguished career in law enforcement with the Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Police Department, after thirty-six years of exemplary service; and

WHEREAS, Commander Lankford embarked on his law enforcement career on July 16, 1972, and steadily rose through the ranks; and

WHEREAS, in September of 1974 he transferred from Youth Guidance to Vice then in January of 1975 from Vice back to Youth Guidance before being promoted in January of 1984 to Sergeant and transferring to the West Precinct; he was promoted in July of 1987 to Lieutenant and transferred to the Walking Patrol, then in September of 1988 transferred to the South Patrol where he was promoted to Captain in October of 1989; in May of 2004 Rick Lankford was promoted to Commander of the South Precinct, a post he would hold with distinction until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, through his many positions within the Metropolitan Police Department he has remained dedicated to the honor of his profession, helpful to all in need, and respected by many in the community; and

WHEREAS, he remains firm in his belief that law enforcement officials, who gain the attention of the general public, should hold themselves to the highest of standards, a testament to the unwavering commitment to excellence he has exhibited each and every day as a law enforcement official; and

WHEREAS, throughout his estimable career, South Precinct Commander Rick Lankford has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes South Precinct Commander Rick Lankford for his accomplishments and invaluable service to the Metropolitan Police Department and wish him well in his retirement.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County Police Department South Precinct Commander Rick Lankford on the occasion of his retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to South Precinct Commander Rick Lankford.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
