RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-178

A resolution recognizing Transportation Commissioner Gerald F. Nicely for his outstanding leadership and service.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), under the direction of Transportation Commissioner Gerald F. Nicely, has received accolades from the nation's truck drivers who have selected Interstate 40 in Tennessee as the best road in the nation for the second year in a row; and

WHEREAS, Gerald F. Nicely, is no stranger to the Metropolitan Government as he served from 1979-2002 as the former Director of the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA); and

WHEREAS, for the ninth year in a row Tennessee’s roadways have ranked among the Top 5 in the nation, according to a survey published in Overdrive Magazine; and

WHEREAS, Overdrive Magazine polls truck drivers across the nation each year asking them to rate the nation’s roads and drivers; and

WHEREAS, TDOT, along with Mr. Nicely, have had a long history of being honored as one of the best transportation network systems in the nation, which is indicative of the invaluable efforts, accomplishments and contributions they have made on the Tennessee roadways; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Gerald F. Nicely for his trailblazing accomplishments as Transportation Commissioner and encourages all Tennesseans take pride in the roadways and drive safely.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Transportation Commissioner Gerald F. Nicely for his outstanding leadership and service.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Transportation Commissioner Gerald F. Nicely, on behalf of the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
