RESOLUTION NO. RS2008-117

A resolution recognizing Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke as Tennessee wins the 2007 Gold Medal Award for excellence in Parks and Recreation Management.

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke, the Tennessee State Parks System has been named the best state parks system in the country by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and the National Recreation and Park Association; and

WHEREAS, through his invaluable efforts, accomplishments and contributions he has had an indelible, positive and beneficial impact in the areas of land conservation and parks management; and

WHEREAS, the Gold Medal award is given to honor those that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, fiscal resource management, citizen support systems, environmental stewardship, professional development, agency recognition and excellence in parks management; and

WHEREAS, Tennessee has 54 state parks and 77 natural areas with a wide range of recreational opportunities, including camping, hiking, swimming, golf, boating, whitewater rafting and more. The state parks system includes resort parks with inns, conference centers and restaurants. Tennessee State Parks and natural areas also play an important role in environmental protection of ecologically significant land and preservation of cultural and historic sites; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Jim Fyke for his trailblazing accomplishments as Environment and Conservation Commissioner and to encourage all Tennessee’s take pride in their parks and get out and enjoy them.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke as Tennessee wins the 2007 Gold Medal Award for excellence in Parks and Recreation Management.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
