RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-42

A resolution recognizing Martha “Mama” Tune for her unwavering dedication and phenomenal service to Antioch and its citizens.

WHEREAS, Martha Ezell Tune, a native Nashvillian, is a 1941 graduate of Antioch High School and while at Antioch participated on the basketball team and cheerleader squad; and

WHEREAS, Martha Ezell Tune was united in marriage to James Tune, also a graduate of Antioch High School, and raised her sons, James Buford and Sammy Lee in the Antioch area; and

WHEREAS, Martha Ezell Tune began teaching at Una Elementary in the 1950’s and after quitting to spend time raising her sons, Mrs. Tune would become a substitute teacher where she would serve in this role until 2005; and

WHEREAS, of the fifty years serving students in the Metropolitan Public School System, Mrs. Tune spent the latter thirty-five years at Antioch High School; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Tune has been recognized for outstanding service to the Nashville community and lifetime achievement by former Governor Ned McWherter, former United States Representative Bob Clement, and the Honorable Ben West, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Tune authored a book titled All I know about Antioch High School, The Town, and My Life, written about her favorite area of town with her family in mind; and

WHEREAS, the leadership, commitment and devotion that Martha “Mama” Tune, has shown speak volumes about her desire to improve the quality of life for the Antioch community; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Tune has spent all of her 86 years in the Antioch community and has generously shared her gifts and talents to Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for half a century; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Martha “Mama” Tune for her dedication, countless contributions and many good works to improving the quality of life for her fellow citizens and wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Martha “Mama” Tune for her unwavering dedication and phenomenal service to Antioch and its citizens.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to Martha “Mama” Tune.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
