RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-2077

A resolution recognizing and congratulating the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team upon receiving top honors at the annual Honor Guard Competition.

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Police Department’s Drill and Ceremony Team was named National Champion at the fifth annual Honor Guard Competition in Washington, D.C. on May 14, 2007; and

WHEREAS, the event, which is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, involved twenty-one drill and ceremony teams from across the United States and Canada. The teams gathered at John Marshall Plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue to demonstrate their precision in three tasks: the team inspection drill, posting of the colors, and exhibition; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team’s dedication, hard work and pride was showcased by its precision and skill in Washington at the beginning of National Police Week, the time each year that our nation pays tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by officers who died in service to their communities; and

WHEREAS, the five drill team members participating in the competition were Sergeant Chris West, Officers James Boone, Ryan Catron, Bryan Doersam and Chad High; Drill Team members assisting in support roles were Lieutenant Ben Rodgers, Officers Jimmy Knight and Leonard Keeler; and

WHEREAS, the generosity of the 100 Club of Nashville made possible the purchase of the Drill and Ceremony Teams special dress uniforms in 2006; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team this great honor and achievement.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating the Metropolitan Police Drill and Ceremony Team upon receiving top honors at the annual Honor Guard Competition.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sergeant Chris West, Officers James Boone, Ryan Catron, Bryan Doersam, Chad High, Lieutenant Ben Rodgers, and Officers Jimmy Knight and Leonard Keeler.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
