A resolution recognizing and honoring Pam Binkley Garrett for her service as a former member of the Metropolitan School Board.

WHEREAS, on March 14, 2007, Pam Garrett, Chairman of the Metropolitan School Board of the Metropolitan Public School System, after serving seven years of faithful service to the employees, her colleagues and the citizens of Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, while on the School Board she served as chairman from September of 2003 until September of 2006, along with serving as Chairman of the Governance Committee, the Advisory and Finance Committee and Ex-Officio of other Board Committees; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Garrett, was instrumental in bringing the five largest school systems in the State together to work on legislative items of shared interest and concern remaining focused on the question, “Is it good for children?” in all matters considered by the board of Education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Garrett is involved in her community as a member of the Connell Methodist Church, Alignment Nashville, Alliance for Public Education, Leadership Nashville Alumni Board, Character Counts, Skyline Medical Center Board of Trustees, The Davidson Group, NAACP, Goodlettsville and Madison Chambers of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Pam Garrett is to be commended for her timeless efforts for the improvement of educational opportunities for children and will sorely be missed not only as the chairman but for her leadership, commitment and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Pam Garrett for her dedication to Metro schools and her accomplishments during her service to education and wish her much happiness in her retirement as she moves forward.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring Pam Binkley Garrett for her service as a former member of the Metropolitan School Board.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Pam Garrett.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
