RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1912
A resolution recognizing Miss Carmen Michelle Overby, 2007 Salutatorian of Antioch High School.
WHEREAS, it is fitting to pause and pay tribute to those students who, through their natural talents and unflagging commitment to academic excellence, have distinguished themselves in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, Miss Carmen Michelle Overby is one such exceptional student, who was named Salutatorian of the 2007 graduating class of Antioch High School; and
WHEREAS, through diligent study, steady composure during examinations, and steadfast commitment of time and talent, Miss Overby has achieved outstanding academic success, and has joined the ranks of the best and brightest students in Tennessee and our country; and
WHEREAS, in her remarkable high school career, Miss Overby has earned an exemplary grade point average of 97.5%, and her display of intellectual aptitude and ambition surely bodes well for her future success; and
WHEREAS, Carmen Overby has been with the Boys and Girls Club for the past 11 years, as aquatics director 2 years, life guard 4 years, member 3 years and as a volunteer 4 years. She has been honored with the title of Youth of the Year for the state of Tennessee and has received a free laptop and $7500 in scholarships; and
WHEREAS, no stranger to honors and accolades, Miss Overby’s scholarly achievements include Top Honors Student in: Geometry, Chemistry, Physical Science, and English, and she is also an active member of the metro-wide strategic planning meeting, T-MAC, attendee two years to the Mayor’s Youth Summit , STARS, YAF, Peer Medication, and has held the position of first chair in the school orchestra; and
WHEREAS, Miss Overby is also an active leader on many Antioch sports teams by participating in four years of Volleyball, where she was awarded All District, Team Leadership Award, Most Improved Player, All Tournament MVP, and Captain/Co-Captain; two years of basketball, one year of tennis, where she received the Coaches Award; and
WHEREAS, as a young woman of unsurpassed character and commitment Carmen’s participation in her community outreach in the areas of the Whitmore Branch Creek clean up, Homeless Outreach Program, Craighead Elementary School clean up, Boys and Girls Club volunteer, Breast Cancer Walk and raising money for the Second Harvest Food Bank and her involvement with her church as a member of the Floor 27 Bible study show that Carmen’s involvement in her community greatly contribute to the betterment of her community and reflect the true spirit of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Carrmen Overby’s noteworthy achievements are a tremendous source of pride for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Murakami, her school and her community; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes 2007 Antioch High School Salutatorian, Miss Carmen Michelle Overby, on her impressive academic achievement, and extend to her our best wishes for a happy, successful future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Miss Carmen Michelle Overby, 2007 Salutatorian of Antioch High School.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Miss Carmen Michelle Overby.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
