RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1906
A resolution recognizing Dr. Eileen Rexroad upon her retirement with the Metropolitan Government.
WHEREAS, on May 25, 2007, Dr. Eileen Rexroad, Music teacher at Lakeview Design Center, will retire after thirty-seven years in the field of music education; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Rexroad began her teaching career in Illinois public schools in 1970 after graduating from the University of Illinois, and taught at Northern Illinois University as an assistant Professor of music education; she served on the Fine Arts committee of Illinois State Board of Education and as a consultant and clinician in music education; she taught at the preschool level and had a private studio with forty clarinet and piano students ranging from age 5 to 75; she taught as an adjunct professor at Middle Tennessee State University for three years and has been teaching in Nashville since 1995; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Rexroad has written several articles and curriculum guides as well as a book titled Teaching Elementary School Music (Prentice Hall, 1992), and has been a presenter at the Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference and the Tennessee Recreation and Park Association Convention; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Rexroad composed numerous songs for the Lakeview student body to sing at their Character Education assemblies, including “The Lakeview School Song” founded and co-directed the Lakeview choir in 1999 meeting voluntarily with the students before school hours; organized and supervised the Lakeview Safety Patrol and directed annual spelling bees for upper elementary grade students for four years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Rexroad is to be commended for her timeless efforts for the improvement of musical opportunities for our children, young adults, and adults and will sorely be missed not only as a music teacher but for her leadership, dedication and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Dr. Rexroad for her work and accomplishments at Lakeview Design Center and wishes her much success as she moves forward in her new endeavors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Dr. Eileen Rexroad upon her retirement from Lakeview Design Center with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Eileen Rexroad.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
