RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1896

A resolution requesting the Mayor's Office and the Parks and Recreation Department to place appropriate yellow ribbons in the Public Square as a way to remember the men and women of our Armed Services in conflict overseas. 

WHEREAS, the United States has been and continues to be in armed conflict with parts of the country of Iraq; and

WHEREAS, citizens of Nashville and Davidson County, whether they are or are not supportive of this country's actions, hopefully agree that we do need to remember that we have men and women from this country in Iraq and in other parts of the world who face danger on a daily basis; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that we not forget those brave men and women that are there on behalf of this country, leaving family and friends behind; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to take steps to acknowledge that we have men and women abroad in those conflicts and to show our support for those men and women; and

WHEREAS, by placing yellow ribbons in several visible places around the City's Public Square, we, as a City, can show our support for those men and women that are in harm's way overseas;

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.      That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor's Office and the Parks and Recreation  Department to place appropriate yellow ribbons in appropriate places in the Public Square as a way to acknowledge and allow us to continue to remember the men and women that are representing our country in conflict overseas.

Section 2.      The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell and to Parks Director Roy Wilson. 

Section 3.      That the Mayor's Office and the Parks and Recreation  Department are further requested to respond to the Council as to the action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4.      That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
