A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission to provide free parking to police officers at the Metro Courthouse Parking Garage while the courts are in session.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Charter provides that the Traffic and Parking Commission shall have control and management of all public parking garages, including the collection of fees or other charges for such parking garages; and

WHEREAS, as part of their job duties, Metro police officers are required to attend court to testify as witnesses in criminal cases, as well as in the prosecution of traffic violations; and

WHEREAS, Members of Council have been informed that Metro police officers are required to pay for parking out of their own pocket while attending court; and

WHEREAS, our police officers risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, as a small token of the government's appreciation for our law enforcement officers, it is fitting and proper that police officers be given free parking in the courthouse garage while they are attending court.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
