RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1842

A resolution supporting a city-wide emergency preparedness workshop for the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County.

WHEREAS, the safety of its citizens is one of the most important functions of its government; and

WHEREAS, in this day and age, citizens must be prepared for numerous situations; and

WHEREAS, the Public Safety Committee of the Metropolitan Council recently invited and heard from representatives of the Office of Emergency Management, the Police and Fire Department, and the American Red Cross about the need for effective communication in dealing with emergencies; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Metropolitan Council, understanding as well the need for effective communication with its citizens, desires to hold, in conjunction with any and all relevant agencies, a city-wide emergency preparedness workshop for the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as being supportive of holding a city-wide emergency preparedness workshop, to be held in conjunction with all relevant agencies, for the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell, to Fire Chief and acting Office of Emergency Management Director Stephen Halford, and to Police Chief Ronal Serpas.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
