RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1840
A resolution requesting the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development, the Board of Parks and Recreation, and the Board of Fair Commissioners to consider working collaboratively to develop a specialized marketing plan to attract entertainers that traditionally performed at Starwood Amphitheatre to perform at other entertainment venues in Nashville.
WHEREAS, Los Angeles-based concert promoter Live Nation recently announced its plans to close the Starwood Amphitheatre facility and sell the property to a developer; and
WHEREAS, Starwood Amphitheatre played an important role in attracting recording artists to perform in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, although the loss of the Starwood facility will create a void in live entertainment options in Nashville, this city has a multitude of other outstanding venues that are easily adaptable to live concerts, such as LP Field, Riverfront Park, and the Tennessee Fairgrounds; and
WHEREAS, the functions performed by the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development include developing plans and incentives to attract business, supporting and enhancing tourism, and issuing permits for special events; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development work with the Board of Parks and Recreation and the Board of Fair Commissioners to attract additional live entertainment to Nashville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development, the Board of Parks and Recreation, and the Board of Fair Commissioners to consider working collaboratively to develop a specialized marketing plan to attract entertainers that traditionally performed at Starwood Amphitheatre to perform at other entertainment venues in Nashville.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell, to Tom Jurkovich, the Director of the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development, and to each member of the Board of Parks and Recreation and the Board of Fair Commissioners.
Section 3. The Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development, the Board of Parks and Recreation, and the Board of Fair Commissioners are further requested to respond to the Council as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days after adoption of this Resolution.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
