RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1799

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Mrs. Essie Perkins as being chosen the 2007-2008 "Teacher of the Year" at Una Elementary.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Essie Perkins, educator at Una Elementary, has devoted her career to providing the highest quality education for Tennessee's students and is well deserving of this recognition; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Essie Perkins has recently been selected by her colleagues as "Teacher of the Year" at Una Elementary, an honor most befitting her outstanding tenure as a teacher, as it recognizes the positive influence she has on so many young lives; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Essie Perkins has served Tennessee and Texas with over 25 years of teaching experience; and

WHEREAS, upon graduating from the University of Memphis, Essie Perkins, began her educational career teaching in Texas, then moving to Memphis, before coming to Una Elementary, were she currently teaches some of our young children at the Third Grade level; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Essie Perkins brings enthusiasm and energy to her students, has an excellent repertoire of teaching strategies, creativity, innovation, and vision that has brought invaluable assets to not only the classroom but to Una Elementary school; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Perkins has been recognized in Who's Who Among Teachers in 2005 and 2006, and was the 1996 WDCN Teacher of the Year, and in her free time enjoys doing crafts and cooking, having her caramel cake winning several prizes in fairs; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Mrs. Essie Perkins on being chosen as "Teacher of the Year" at Una Elementary, commend her exceptional service to her students, salute her professional expertise and wish her all the best.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and congratulating Mrs. Essie Perkins as being chosen the 2007-2008 "Teacher of the Year" at Una Elementary.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mrs. Essie Perkins.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
