RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1797

A resolution recognizing and congratulating Susanne Frensley on being named 2007 Tennessee Teacher of the Year.

WHEREAS, Susanne Frensley is a teacher at Hillsboro High School in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Frensley currently is an Advance Placement (AP) Art History teacher at the school; and

WHEREAS, since 1995, Ms. Frensley has taught at Stratford and Hillsboro High Schools in the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Public School System; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Frensley developed a love for teaching students early in her own educational career, demonstrating a gift for mentoring children when she was still in high school; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Frensley consistently reaches out to non-traditional AP students to both get more students focused on new subjects as well as preparing more students for college; and

WHEREAS, for the past nine years, 95 percent of her AP Art History students have passed their exam; and

WHEREAS, on the basis of her teaching excellence and based upon her ability to positively impact the lives of her students, Susanne Frensley has been named the 2007 Tennessee Teacher of the Year, an honor that has only been awarded to a Metro Nashville teacher four times in the last 46 years; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Metropolitan Council to recognize and commend the exceptional work and service of outstanding Nashvillians.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as congratulating Susanne Frensley upon the occasion of her being named 2007 Tennessee Teacher of the Year and that the Council commends her for her wonderful work in the school system.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Susanne Frensley.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
