RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1760
A resolution designating February 2007 as "Phone Book Recycling Month in Metro Schools".
WHEREAS, Metro Public Works and the Metro Beautification and Environment Commission have an on-going commitment to promote recycling by all Davidson County residents; and
WHEREAS, Public Works and Metro Beautification offer numerous education opportunities and classroom programs to teach the importance of recycling to students of all ages in Metro Nashville; and
WHEREAS, the AT&T Real Yellow Pages has begun delivering in excess of 500,000 2007 "Real White Pages" telephone directories to all households in the Greater Nashville area; and
WHEREAS, the delivery of new "Real White Pages" books will create an immediate need to dispose of thousands of out-dated phone directories; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to encourage residents and especially teachers and parents of Metro School students to recycle their old phone books instead of discarding them in the trash where they will eventually end up in landfills or otherwise littering our streets and alleys; and
WHEREAS, Public Works and Metro Beautification are sponsoring a county-wide contest to determine which schools can collect the most phone books to be recycled, with the winning schools receiving a cash prize award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as designating February 2007 as "Phone Book Recycling Month in Metro Schools".
Section 2. Further, all residents of Metro Nashville and Davidson County are urged to support the Metro School of their choice by collecting outdated telephone directories and disposing of them at a Public Works Recycling Drop-off Site on each Saturday during the month of February.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
