SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1750

A resolution requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to take the action necessary to rename Dickerson Pike between Spring Street and East Trinity Lane as "Skyline Boulevard".

WHEREAS, Dickerson Pike is a major thoroughfare running through east Nashville that has been plagued with criminal activity for many years, such as prostitution, drug trafficking, and graffiti; and

WHEREAS, the Dickerson Pike area has experienced a revitalization in recent years, largely as a result of the construction of the Skyline Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, neighborhood groups and business owners in the Dickerson Pike area are working for the continued improvement of the area's image in an effort to attract additional business enterprises; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to improve the image for the Dickerson Pike area, residents and business owners have expressed interest in renaming the road "Skyline Boulevard"; and

WHEREAS, since Dickerson Pike is a state thoroughfare, it is necessary that the Tennessee General Assembly take action to formally rename the roadway.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to take the action necessary to rename Dickerson Pike between Spring Street and East Trinity Lane as "Skyline Boulevard".

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
