RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1704
A resolution requesting the United States Postal Service not to relocate post office box customers from Broadway Station to Church Street Station.
WHEREAS, on November 27, 2006, the United States Postal Service informed the approximately 5,000 post office box customers at Broadway Station, located at 901 Broadway in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, that their post office boxes would be relocated to Church Street Station effective February 7, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Church Street Station, located at 1718 Church Street, is eight blocks away from Broadway Station; and
WHEREAS, Broadway Station's close proximity to the downtown area made it convenient for downtown residents, as well as businesses, to have access to their post office boxes throughout the day; and
WHEREAS, relocating the post office boxes to the Church Street Station will greatly inconvenience postal patrons, requiring them to get in their vehicle and drive to the new location to check their mail; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of the Metropolitan Government that the United States Postal Service abandon its plans to relocate its post office box customers from Broadway Station to Church Street Station.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the United States Postal Service not to relocate post office box customers from Broadway Station to Church Street Station.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the United States Post Master General, with a carbon copy to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Senator Lamar Alexander, and Congressman Jim Cooper.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
