RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1683
A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Department of Water and Sewerage Services to examine the feasibility of establishing an "Adopt-A-Stormwater Problem" program.
WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation has a program known as Adopt-a-Highway that is effective in keeping our streets and highways clean and free of litter; and
WHEREAS, other cities have taken that program one step further by having entities adopt waterways, such as streams and creeks, working to keep those areas clean; and
WHEREAS, the City of Nashville has had, and continues to have, problems dealing with stormwater issues in different parts of the city; and
WHEREAS, certain stormwater problems are caused by backed-up drains and unkempt drainage ditches that cause significant problems "down stream"; and
WHEREAS, by working with various organizations, agencies, and neighborhood groups, and, with tools and established plans, citizens and the Department of Water and Sewerage Services together could make great strides toward eliminating stormwater problems that negatively impact the residents of Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Department of Water and Sewerage Services to examine the feasibility of establishing an "Adopt-A-Stormwater Problem" program, and to work with area organizations, agencies, and neighborhoods to solve specific stormwater problems.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Scott Potter, Director of the Metropolitan Department of Water and Sewerage Services.
Section 3. The Department of Water and Sewerage Services is further requested to respond to the Council as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days after the adoption of this Resolution.
