RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1648

A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Director of Public Property Administration to examine the feasibility of installing drinking fountains on the new Public Square in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse.

WHEREAS, on October 1, 2006, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Nashville, the new Public Square in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse was unveiled to the public; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable park area includes beautiful fountains, an observatory deck, and places for people to eat and relax; and

WHEREAS, one noticeable feature missing from the Public Square is the lack of drinking fountains for the public; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens visiting the park, especially on hot summer days, that public drinking fountains be available at the Public Square.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Director of Public Property Administration to examine the feasibility of installing drinking fountains on the new Public Square in front of the Metropolitan Courthouse.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell, to Parks and Recreation Director Roy Wilson, and to Ken Maynard, the Director of Public Property Administration.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
