RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1602

A resolution setting the date and time for the State of Metro Address.

Whereas, the city of Nashville turned 200 years old this year and in recognition of that milestone the Celebrate Nashville campaign is currently underway celebrating all of the great things about Nashville; and

Whereas, the newly opened Public Square is a park adjacent to the Historic Metropolitan Courthouse and is designed to pay tribute to the history of Nashville and provide a space for the enjoyment of the public; and

Whereas, Mayor Bill Purcell announced on May 25, 2006 that the next State of Metro Address will be held on May 24, 2007 in the Public Square, a place open and accessible to all who wish to attend; and

Whereas, the Charter of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County now provides that the State of Metro Address shall be in a public facility at a specially called meeting of the Metropolitan Council with the date and time to be set by Council resolution.

NOW, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The State of Metro Address will take place on May 24 at 8 am on the Public Square at a specially called meeting of the Metropolitan Council and all of the public shall be invited to attend.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
