RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1589
A resolution encouraging all employees of the 95 Tennessee counties to participate in the 2006 Change a Light Campaign sponsored by the National Association of Counties, and encouraging all Nashville citizens to use energy efficient light bulbs in their homes.
WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties (NACo) and Office Depot are sponsoring the 2006 Change a Light Campaign, which encourages persons to change the most frequently used light in their home to an energy efficient bulb; and
WHEREAS, an energy efficient bulb uses two-thirds less energy, generates seventy-percent less heat, and lasts up to ten times longer than a conventional bulb; and
WHEREAS, replacing a 100-watt incandescent light bulb with an energy efficient 32-watt compact florescent lamp generates the same brightness and will save at least thirty dollars in energy costs over the life of the bulb; and
WHEREAS, NACo and Office Depot are encouraging county government employees to pledge to change their most frequently used light bulb to an energy efficient one; and
WHEREAS, county employees who sign up for the pledge at www.naco.org/changealight will receive a $1.50 discount on their energy efficient light bulb purchase; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that all Tennessee counties inform their employees about this opportunity to reduce energy consumption and help our environment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
