RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1581

A resolution requesting Governor Phil Bredesen and the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to publish a list of employers that are providing insurance for their employees through the Cover Tennessee program.

WHEREAS, on July 6, 2006, Governor Phil Bredesen signed into law SB3895/HB 4011 (the "Cover Tennessee Act") in an effort to provide low-cost health insurance for uninsured working Tennesseans; and

WHEREAS, the Cover Tennessee program creates a partnership between the state and small businesses to offer affordable basic health insurance to employees that otherwise would not have insurance coverage; and

WHEREAS, under the terms of the plan, eligible employees, employers and the state would each make a contribution toward the insurance premiums; and

WHEREAS, an amendment offered to SB2856/HB3319, which was not enacted by the Tennessee General Assembly, would have required the state Department of Finance and Administration to submit a report to the members of the General Assembly identifying the employers in their respective districts that have less than twenty-five employees and are participating in the Cover Tennessee program; and

WHEREAS, the public would benefit from having the opportunity to see which private small businesses are participating in the Cover Tennessee program.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to publish a list of employers that are providing insurance for their employees through the Cover Tennessee program.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.
