RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1580

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board to have an actuarial study performed to determine the cost of including judicial court officers in the fire and police pension plan.

WHEREAS, sworn police officers and firefighters have a different pension plan than general government and non-emergency employees; and

WHEREAS, the police and fire pension plan provides greater benefits and earlier retirement eligibility for sworn police officers and firefighters; and

WHEREAS, judicial court officers in the Davidson County court system perform similar duties protecting the safety of citizens in the courtrooms that place them in peril; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board determine the cost, based upon an actuarial study, of including judicial court officers as members of the pension plan established for police and firefighters.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board to have an actuarial study performed to determine the cost of including judicial court officers in the fire and police pension plan.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the members of the Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board.

Section 3. The Metropolitan Employee Benefit Board is further requested to respond the Council as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than one hundred eighty (180) days following the adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
