RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1534

A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department to install surveillance cameras at the corner of 40th Avenue North and Clifton Avenue, and along 24th Avenue North between Santi Street and Buchanan Street.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has implemented a surveillance camera pilot project in certain areas of Nashville; and

WHEREAS, cameras have been installed in the Cleveland Park area of East Nashville and in the Second Avenue area of downtown in an effort to catch persons engaging in criminal activity and to deter crimes; and

WHEREAS, constituents of the 21st District have complained about repeated criminal activity at the corner of 40th Avenue North and Clifton Avenue, and also in the vicinity of 24th Avenue North between Santi Street and Buchanan Street; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to help the residents of District 21 to further their goals of improving the quality of life in their neighborhoods, it is fitting and proper that the Police Department expand the pilot project regarding the use of surveillance cameras and install visible cameras to observe the activities at the corner of 40th Avenue North and Clifton Avenue, and also in the vicinity of 24th Avenue North between Santi Street and Buchanan Street to help curtail the criminal activity in these areas.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department to install surveillance cameras at the corner of 40th Avenue North and Clifton Avenue, and along 24th Avenue North between Santi Street and Buchanan Street.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Police Chief Ronal Serpas.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
