A resolution to designate and recognize October 22-28, 2006, as Celebrate Songwriters Week.

WHEREAS, Nashville's songwriting prowess is known throughout the world for enriching the lives of people with works across a wide variety of genres and musical styles, and,

WHEREAS, the economic impact that songwriters have on our community is significant as is their cultural contribution, and,

WHEREAS, the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) began nearly 40 years ago representing the men and women who bring music to Music City, and,

WHEREAS, the Nashville Songwriters Foundation (NSF) honors the works and lives of the legendary songwriters, as it has since 1970, with induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and,

WHEREAS, NSAI, NSF and The American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP), will host their annual Hall of Fame induction and songwriter awards events October 22 and 23, 2006. These showcase events honor Nashville's top tunesmiths for their songs over the past year and others for a lifetime of songwriting achievement, and,

WHEREAS, Celebrate Nashville recognizes the unique offerings that make our city a special place, and,

WHEREAS, songwriting is one of those special things our city offers the world and therefore should be recognized as part of our Celebrate Nashville festivities, and,

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council join Mayor Bill Purcell in recognizing and proclaiming October 22 through October 28, 2006, as Celebrate Songwriters Week in Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. Accordingly, the citizens of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County are encouraged to join their fellow citizens in recognizing and supporting the work of Nashville's songwriting community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record to designate and recognize October 22-28, 2006, as Celebrate Songwriters Week in Nashville, a part of our Celebrate Nashville festivities.

Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
