RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1519

A resolution encouraging all Metropolitan Government employees to participate in the 2006 Change a Light Campaign sponsored by the National Association of Counties.

WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties (NACo) and Office Depot are sponsoring the 2006 Change a Light Campaign, which encourages persons to change the most frequently used light in their home to an energy efficient bulb; and

WHEREAS, an energy efficient bulb uses two-thirds less energy, generates seventy-percent less heat, and lasts up to ten times longer than a conventional bulb; and

WHEREAS, replacing a 100-watt incandescent light bulb with an energy efficient 32-watt compact florescent lamp generates the same brightness and will save at least thirty dollars in energy costs over the life of the bulb; and

WHEREAS, NACo and Office Depot are encouraging county government employees to pledge to change their most frequently used light bulb to an energy efficient one; and

WHEREAS, Metropolitan Government employees who sign up for the pledge at www.naco.org/changealight will receive a $1.50 discount on their energy efficient light bulb purchase; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that all Metropolitan Government department heads inform their employees about this opportunity to reduce energy consumption and help our environment.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
