RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1482
A resolution recognizing Opie G. Sory, on the occasion of his retirement as Court Officer from the Metropolitan General Sessions Court, Division III of Davidson County and Nashville, Tennessee.
WHEREAS, Opie G. Sory, Jr., has served with distinction for over forty-two years with the City of Nashville as a General Sessions Court Officer; and
WHEREAS, on August 31, 2006, Opie G. Sory, retired having served with distinction as Court Officer for the General Sessions Court, Division III from 1978 until his retirement and an employee of Metropolitan Government for 42 years; and
WHEREAS, Opie G. Sory started his career for the City of Nashville as a Police Officer in 1964 having served for 10 years and later working as a Metro Traffic Warrant Officer before becoming a Court Officer; and
WHEREAS, throughout his estimable career, Opie G. Sory, Jr., has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Opie G. Sory has lived and worked in the Nashville Community for many years and has contributed greatly to the quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Opie G. Sory attended David Lipscomb Elementary, graduated from David Lipscomb High School in 1958 and later attended David Lipscomb College; and
WHEREAS, he joined the U.S. Army in 1960 serving 8 years; and
WHEREAS, he is a member of Masonic Lodge Phoenix 131 since 1968 and served admirably as Past Master in 1991 and 1997 and is a member of the Shrine, Scottish Rites, New York Rites, Hillbillies, and Judson Baptist Church where he will soon be a member of the Jewels; and
WHEREAS, Opie G. Sory, a dedicated family man, is married to Judith Ann (Biles) Sory; the father of daughter Juanita Ann Sory Boone and son Robert Gleaves Sory, Sr. and the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Robert Gleaves Sory, Jr., Brandon Sory, Jackson Boone, Grayson Boone and Bryson Boone as well as two step grandchildren, Ryan Jackson and Ashley Jackson; and
WHEREAS, Opie G. Sory enjoys his hobbies of following NASCAR and collecting NASCAR memorabilia, fishing, and his grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Opie G. Sory for his fourty-two years of distinguished service and contributions to Davidson County, and extends its hopes for success in his future endeavors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Opie G. Sory, on the occasion of his retirement as Court Officer from the Metropolitan General Sessions Court, Division III of Davidson County, and Nashville, Tennessee.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Opie G. Sory.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
