RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1481

A resolution honoring the late Dana Kaye.

WHEREAS, on June 30, 2006, Middle Tennessee lost one of its beloved and respected local television news reporters in Dana Kaye of NewsChannel 5; and

WHEREAS, Dana, prior to her untimely passing, had served for more than 25 years as a television news reporter, with the final ten years at Nashville's WTVF NewsChannel 5; and

WHEREAS, Dana was an extremely talented, compassionate and dedicated news reporter, who worked tirelessly to report the news, and who was known for her kindness and her commitment to telling people's stories; and

WHEREAS, as a reporter with WTVF-Channel 5, Dana worked on numerous stories and especially enjoyed her overseas military reporting assignments with troops stationed at Fort Campbell, became one of the first reporters to be embedded with the U.S. Army during an active military operation when she traveled to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne in 2002, and was the only local reporter to cross the border from Kuwait into Iraq in 2003 as Operation Iraqi Freedom began; and

WHEREAS, Dana earned the respect of her colleagues, friends and, especially, the military personnel on whom she reported; and

WHEREAS, Dana was also deeply devoted to her family, as a loving wife to Dan, daughter to her mother, and as a mother to her daughter, Alden; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council remember the bountiful life of this exceptional journalist and human being, reflect upon her impeccable character and commitment to Middle Tennessee, and express its condolences to the family and NewsChannel 5 colleagues of Dana Kaye upon the occasion of her passing.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the late Dana Kaye.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Dana Kaye and a copy to be presented to Dana's colleagues at WTVF NewsChannel 5.


Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
