RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1480
A resolution recognizing and honoring Dr. David C. George upon his retirement as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church.
WHEREAS, on October 8, 2006, Dr. David C. George will retire as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, after thirty years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, David C. George received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard Payne University in 1960, prior to receiving Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Theology degrees from Southwestern Baptist theological Seminary in 1963 and 1968, respectively; and
WHEREAS, prior to being called as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in 1976, Dr. George served as pastor of the Willow Point Baptist Church in Jack County, Texas; as assistant to the pastor of First Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana; and as pastor of First Baptist Church in Stuttgart, Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure at Immanuel Baptist Church, Dr. George served as a former member of the Executive Board of the Tennessee Baptist Convention, a former trustee of Belmont University, a former member of the Christian Life Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, and a member of the John Newport Society; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his exemplary service as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, Dr. George served as an adjunct professor at Belmont University, as pastor in residence at the George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University, and has been published on several occasions in various Bible commentaries and theological journals; and
WHEREAS, although the Immanuel Baptist congregation is sure to miss Dr. George's outstanding preaching skills and his congenial demeanor, the church will take great satisfaction in knowing Dr. George is able to spend more time with his family, as well as pursue his hobby as an avid book collector, especially of interesting editions of The Pilgrim's Progess by John Bunyan; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Dr. David C. George for his exceptional service to Immanuel Baptist Church and this community, and extend to him our heartfelt wishes for a happy, fulfilling and blessed retirement and continued success in future endeavors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring Dr. David C. George upon his retirement as pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this resolution to be presented to Dr. David C. George upon his retirement.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
