RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1477

A resolution recognizing William Woodrow Harris on the celebration of his 90th birthday.

WHEREAS, saluting the exemplary life of William Woodrow Harris, who has lived ninety happy and rewarding years is truly a memorable occasion worthy of honor, praise and celebration; and

WHEREAS, the son of Katherine Harris, William Woodrow Harris was born on July 4, 1916, graduated from Isaac Litton High School, was united in marriage to Lillian Marie Otto, and from their blessed union were born three sons, Bill, Jerry and Robert who have benefited from his love, understanding and support, and is the proud grandfather of six grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, a highly respected member of the Nashville community, Mr. Harris has been laudably devoted throughout his life to the service of his country, its Armed Forces and his fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, a true patriot, William Harris is a Merchant Marine veteran who served his country with acumen and alacrity in defense of our nation; and

WHEREAS, after returning home from his tour and retiring from military service, Mr. Harris settled in Nashville, where he began working with a surgical supply company that earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow citizens as an astute businessman and community leader; and

WHEREAS, William Harris entering his 10th decade, is still an active and productive member of society, participating in various professional, civic and community organizations and events; and

WHEREAS, over the past 39 years, Mr. Harris has been a vital member of the Hillsboro-Harding Exchange Club where he has been involved with the "Child Abuse Prevention" project, which he feels is really making a difference; due to his huge interest in horticulture he also is a member of the Camellia Club and Cheekwood; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes William Woodrow Harris on the occasion of his 90th birthday and extend to him our best wishes for much continued happiness and good health.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing William Woodrow Harris on the celebration of his 90th birthday.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Mr. William Woodrow Harris.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
