A resolution recognizing the Honorable William J. Faimon on the occasion of his retirement from the Metropolitan General Sessions Court Division III of Davidson County, Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, on August 31, 2006, William J. Faimon, retired having served with distinction for twenty-four years on the General Sessions Court Division III bench from 1982 until his refinement; and

WHEREAS, William J. Faimon has lived and worked in the Nashville Community for many years and has contributed greatly to the quality of life; and

WHEREAS, William J. Faimon attended Cathedral Grade School, Father Ryan High School, graduated from Notre Dame University with a B.A. in 1959, graduated from Vanderbilt School of Law in 1959; and

WHEREAS, William J. Faimon served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1956, practiced in the law firm of Summers, Jennings, Frazier & Faimon from 1959 to 1982 before being elected as General Sessions Court Division III judge in 1982, 1990, and 1998; and

WHEREAS, his extensive involvement in the legal profession extends to a myriad of bar association memberships and activities including having been an active member of the Nashville Bar Association where he served on the Board of Directors from 1965-1968 and from 1991-1994, a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee General Sessions Judges Conference, American Judges' Association, Lawyer's Association for Women, and American Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, he has held a multitude of elected and appointed positions, including serving as Presiding Judge of the Metropolitan General Sessions Court from 1988-1989, served as Chairman of Mayor Bredesen's Task Force that created the Domestic Violence Division within the Metro Police Department, and has previously served on the Tennessee Judicial Council, and the State Judicial Ethics Committee; and

WHEREAS, William J. Faimon is no stranger to awards during his career, having been a past recipient of an Award of Appreciation from the Domestic Violence Advocacy Team; and

WHEREAS, William J. Faimon received a 93.8% approval rating in the Nashville Bar Association Judges' Poll in 1998; and

WHEREAS, throughout his estimable career, Judge Faimon has provided outstanding public service, dedication, and love for his fellow man, he has exhibited the utmost professionalism and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues in the judiciary, Tennessee's legal community, and of the citizenry of this City; and

WHEREAS, William J. Faimon, a dedicated family man, is married to Peggy (Summers) Faimon; the father of one son Terry Faimon and the proud grandfather of three grandchildren, Blake Faimon, Caitlin Faimon and Megan Faimon; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Judge William J. Faimon for his twenty-four years of distinguished service and contributions to Davidson County, and extends its hopes for success in his future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Honorable Judge William J. Faimon, Metropolitan General Sessions Court Division III, on the occasion of his retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to the Honorable William J. Faimon upon his retirement.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
