RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1473

A resolution recognizing the Honorable John P. Brown on the occasion of his retirement from the Metropolitan General Sessions Court Division V of Davidson County, Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, on August 31, 2006, John P. Brown, retired having served with distinction for twenty-four years on the General Sessions Court Division V bench from 1982 until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown has lived in the Nashville community all his life and has contributed greatly to the quality of life; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown earned his B.S. Degree from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 1964 and received his Law Degree from the Nashville School of Law in 1969; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown is a member of the Nashville Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee General Sessions Judges Conference, Lawyer's Association for Women, American Judges Association, American Bar Association, American Judicature Society and the Tennessee Pharmacist's Association; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown was elected as General Sessions Court Division V judge in 1982, 1990, and 1998; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown has been active in the community where he currently serves as President of the Tennessee General Sessions Judges' Conference; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown, has previously served as Chair of the Justice Integration Services Policy Committee from 1992-1995 and was re-elected Chair in 2004 and 2005 and continues to serve on this committee and during his first tenure as Chair, the Criminal Justice Information System was designed and implemented; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown was appointed to work with the Supreme Court, Legislature, and Executive Department to define statewide judicial automation needs in 1992 and 1991; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown served as Presiding Judge for General Sessions Court from 1991-1992; and

WHEREAS, throughout his estimable career, Judge Brown has provided outstanding public service, dedication, and love for his fellow man, he has exhibited the utmost professionalism and integrity, winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues in the judiciary, Tennessee's legal community, and of the citizenry of this City; and

WHEREAS, John P. Brown, a dedicated family man, is married to Anne Brown for the past twenty years the father of four children, Kevin J. Drury, Joan Brown Bayston, Matthew J. Drury and John P. (Jack) Brown III; and the proud grandfather of five grandchildren, Leah Hazel Bayston, Matthew Masin Drury, Thaddeus Scott Bayston, Audrey Ruth Bayston and Jackson Porter Brown; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes Judge John P. Brown for his twenty-four years of distinguished service and contributions to Davidson County, and extends its hopes for success in his future endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Honorable Judge John P. Brown, Metropolitan General Sessions Court Division V, on the occasion of his retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerks Office is directed to prepare a hand-lettered scroll to be presented to the Honorable John P. Brown upon his retirement.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
