RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1469

A resolution requesting the Department of General Services, Office of Fleet Management, to submit a monthly report to the Metropolitan Council regarding the amount of gasoline consumed by Metro vehicles during the previous month, and to develop a plan for reducing the amount of gasoline used by the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, as a result of hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, and the present political climate in the Middle East, gasoline prices in the United States are at record levels; and

WHEREAS, the Department of General Services, Office of Fleet Management is responsible for acquiring and maintaining vehicles and heavy equipment for the various departments of the Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, the Office of Fleet Management also oversees the Metropolitan Government's fuel supply program, which provides fueling sites to employees operating Metro vehicles; and

WHEREAS, the fiscal year 2007 budget for the Office of Fleet Management includes an additional $2,305,000 due to the increased cost of fuel; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Office of Fleet Management develop a plan for reducing the Metropolitan Government's dependence on gasoline.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Department of General Services, Office of Fleet Management, to submit a monthly report to the Metropolitan Council regarding the amount of gasoline consumed by Metro vehicles during the previous month, and to develop a plan for reducing the amount of gasoline used by the Metropolitan Government.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Nancy Whittemore, the Director of the Department of General Services, and to C.W. "Bill" Malcolm, the Fleet Manager for the Metropolitan Government.

Section 3. That the Department of General Services is further requested to respond to the Council as to the feasibility of and/or action taken in compliance with the request stated in Section 1 hereof not later than sixty (60) days from the date of adoption of this Resolution.

Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
