RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1433

A resolution requesting the Department of General Services and the Director of Finance to hold an informational session for Members of Council prior to implementing the recommendations of the performance audit of the building and grounds maintenance functions for the Metropolitan Government.

WHEREAS, on June 20, 2006, Matrix Consulting Group released the results of an audit of the building and grounds maintenance functions of t he Metropolitan Government; and

WHEREAS, one of the recommendations from the Matrix audit is to consolidate the responsibility for buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial services, and security into the General Services Department; and

WHEREAS, many custodians from various Metropolitan Government Departments have expressed concerns about losing their jobs or being transferred to the General Services Department; and

WHEREAS, while understanding the cost savings associated with the implementation of many of the audit recommendations, the Council desires to remain responsive to the needs and concerns of the Metropolitan Government employees that could be impacted; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council be kept informed of the plans for implementing the Matrix audit recommendation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Department of General Services and the Director of Finance to hold an informational session for Members of Council prior to implementing the recommendations of the performance audit of the building and grounds maintenance functions for the Metropolitan Government.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Nancy Whittemore, the Director of the Department of General Services, and to David Manning, the Director of Finance.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
