RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1432

A resolution requesting the Department of Water and Sewerage Services to install grates over the openings for large stormwater drainage culverts beneath the roadways.

WHEREAS, large stormwater drainage culverts have been constructed under various major roadways in Davidson County, such as Gallatin Road, in an effort to minimize stormwater runoff problems; and

WHEREAS, these drainage culverts have tunnel-like openings underneath the roadways that are large enough for humans and animals to seek shelter; and

WHEREAS, several constituents have expressed concerns about persons and animals living in certain stormwater culverts adjacent to residential neighborhoods, which has caused them to fear for their safety; and

WHEREAS, installing grates over these openings would prevent animals and humans from living underneath the roadway without negatively affecting the flow of water during periods of hard rain.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Department of Water and Sewerage Services to install grates over the openings for large stormwater drainage culverts beneath the roadways.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Scott Potter, the Director of the Department of Water and Sewerage Services.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
