A resolution recognizing the 2006 Teachers of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools on the occasion of their retirement.

WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and pay tribute, particularly on the occasion of their retirement, to those outstanding educators who have devoted their careers to providing the highest quality education for Tennessee's students; and

WHEREAS, America's greatest strength has always been an educated citizenry which is directly attributable to our system of free and universal public education that provides an educational opportunity for all students; and

WHEREAS, the foundation upon which the system of public schooling rests is the individual classroom teacher who exhibits the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with their colleagues and different groups in the community, as well as the desire to keep abreast of current educational theories and practices, with the ability and willingness to make meaningful contributions to the field of education; and

WHEREAS, these educators comprise an extremely talented and compassionate group who worked assiduously to motivate their students to reach their full potential, both as scholars and as citizens; and

WHEREAS, these individuals truly have served as an inspiration to their colleagues and students alike, and their friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate to have known them; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and commends the 2006 teacher retirees for their many years of enthusiasm and drive in the service of education, their persistent hard work, exceptional service, and untiring dedication to Tennessee's youth, and wish them a fulfilling retirement and all the best as they embark on new adventures in life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 2006 Teachers of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools on the occasion of their retirement.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to each 2006 Teachers of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools who have retired during this school year.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
