RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1392

A resolution honoring the late Donald Sinclair Schwartz of Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that on May 28, 2006, that we learned of the passing of Donald Sinclair Schwartz; and

WHEREAS, because of his dedication, innovation, and inspired leadership, Donald Schwartz was an extremely talented and compassionate educator, who worked tirelessly to motivate his students to reach their full potential, both as scholars and as human beings, and who was known for his kindness and his hard work to improve the quality of education; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schwartz served from 1997 to his untimely passing with warmth and good cheer as headmaster at Harding Academy, at which he earned the respect of the students, teachers, administrators, and parents alike for the exemplary quality of his work and his lifelong commitment to education; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with Harding Academy, Mr. Schwartz, was honored by the dedication of the new arts complex known as The Schwartz Center; and

WHEREAS, before coming to Harding Academy, Mr. Schwartz, followed in his father's footsteps, as he initiated his academic career as a teacher and then as a headmaster of independent schools in New Orleans, Houston, Albuquerque, and Winter Haven, Florida before coming to Nashville; and

WHEREAS, Donald Schwartz was also deeply devoted to his family, as loving husband to Alice, as proud father of son Donald Sinclair Schwartz, Jr., and daughter, Allison Schwartz Greiner, as father-in-law to Drake Greiner, and as proud grandfather to Thomas, Elliot, and Maggie; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council take a moment to remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being and reflect upon his impeccable character and commitment to the Nashville community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the late Donald Sinclair Schwartz of Nashville, Tennessee.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to the family of Donald Sinclair Schwartz.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
