RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1391

A resolution recognizing and commending James Stricklin, of the Metropolitan Nashville Emergency Communications Center, upon being named the 2005 Dispatcher of the Year.

WHEREAS, seldom observed by the public, the Metropolitan Nashville Emergency Communications Center, nevertheless provides an essential service in Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, when an emergency occurs, the prompt response of dispatchers to the appropriate Public Safety Agencies is critical to the protection of life; and

WHEREAS, one such outstanding and dedicated dispatcher is James Stricklin, who was recently named the 2005 Dispatcher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, serving in the Communications Center, he services the citizens of Davidson County by answering their requests for emergency services, providing moral support and dispatching the appropriate emergency medical assistance as quickly as possible; and

WHEREAS, on July 14, 2005, 9-1-1 dispatcher James Stricklin, exhibited extreme competence and composure, when he received a radio call "officer down", when Metro Police Officer Dan Alford was shot while performing his duties and in need of medical assistance; and

WHEREAS, thanks to the efforts of Mr. Stricklin medical personnel and additional law enforcement personnel were dispatched to his location to render aid; and

WHEREAS, thanks to the efforts and handling of this incident James Stricklin is being recognized as the 2005 Metropolitan Nashville Emergency Communications Center Dispatcher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes and commends James Stricklin for his efforts in providing assistance during a time of dire crisis and convey to him their highest respect and admiration.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and commending James Stricklin, of the Metropolitan Nashville Emergency Communications Center, upon being named the 2005 Dispatcher of the Year.

Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to James Stricklin.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
